Craniosacral Therapy is a broad health-care system which employs a gentle manual contact on the body to palpate and interact with the patients cranio-sacral system. Practitioners believe that this is the primary physiological system which sustains and distributes the self-healing energies of the body. The action of the cranio-sacral system imparts a subtle but palpable rhythmic motion to the entire body structure. This can be detected and evaluated all over the body. With the insight it brings, the Craniosacral Practitioner can build up a dynamic picture of the structural and energetic state of the body. The cranio-sacral system also has the healing potential to resolve many of the problems it reveals. Through subtle techniques, the inherent potency of the system can be directed and focused on areas of restriction and imbalance. It has the power to gently unwind and release restrictions, restore fluidity to body structure and revitalise our life energy.
History
Craniosacral Therapy shares its conceptual origin with the field of cranial osteopathy, which was developed in the early 1900s by an osteopath W.G. Sutherland. The system began to be developed outside the osteopathic profession, most notably by John Upledger, an osteopath who introduced the concept to practitioners from other therapeutic disciplines. This stimulated further developments within the field and Craniosacral Therapy now represents a new (and still evolving) approach to Sutherland's cranial concept.
What to Expect
Practitioners will take a detailed case history embracing present symptoms and problems as well as past medical history. Patients lie fully clothed on a treatment table, while the practitioner lays their hands on different parts of the body, exerting subtle pressures to focus the internal energies. The result is often deeply relaxing. Many of the problems which are revealed are the result of past physical trauma which remain imprinted on the body long after tissue healing is completed. Working at a deep level with the restrictions and contractions of the physical body can sometimes bring to the surface deeply held tensions of psychological and emotional origin and cranial work can be an effective method of approaching and resolving them. Craniosacral Therapy is thus a powerful and gentle therapy for mind, body and emotions.

It's gentle non-invasive
manipulative techniques assist the body in its own natural self-correctives
activities. The
cranio-sacral system includes all the bones of your skull, face & mouth,
extending by a system of hydraulics and membranes to the lower end of the spine,
the sacrum. Several ounces of Cranial Sacral Fluid move rhythmically through a
dural membrane, nourishing & connecting the entire nervous system. This creates
a rhythmical motion throughout the body that can be palpated for healing. Any
imbalance or trauma (i.e. Birth trauma, accidents, stress) in this system can
affect your sensed, emotions, motor functions, structure and influence the
